4 Member Girl Groups Take Over Summer 2014

As many of you know, I’m not a huge fan of Girl’s Day or Sistar, but it’s undeniable how both “Darling” and “Touch My Body” are basically the two biggest songs of the summer. While there’s nothing remotely original about “Darling” – particularly the “Shy Boy”-sound to the song, I can’t say I disliked it – mostly because of the “Shy Boy” similarities. “Touch My Body” is one of the most original singles Sistar has released, and I actually enjoy it. The dance is cute, and I’m not sure why they’re getting so much criticism for an ‘awkward dance’ – since it looks fun, and isn’t even that hard to do.

Anyways, I’m mostly here to write about the other 4 member girl groups of Summer: BESTie, Red Velvet, Secret, and KARA.  Continue reading

My Top 10 Girl Groups

So in trying to figure out how to integrate a bit of myself into the blog, so maybe my readers can see where my thoughts and opinions come from, I’m going to do a quick list of both my Top 10 Boy and Girl Groups. Now that the boy groups have been posted, I’m going to try to figure out my top 10 girl groups, though they change constantly. Please note that these are not necessary the ‘best’ girl groups, but the girl groups I most enjoy. If I’ve seen a group live, I’m gonna bold their name.

There are so many groups I wanted to include but I only have room for 10 plus a Rookie shout out spot… there are way too many flawless girl groups to be honest, and I listen to a lot more girl groups than boy groups. Continue reading

Favorite Releases of February 2014

February ended, but it was a hot mess. I’m pretty sure I don’t even have any favorite songs of the month that weren’t surrounded by some sort of screw up or controversy. I also blogged heavily about most of my faves this month as it is, so I’ll just do quick recaps so this Hell month can end and move on to hopefully bigger and better things in March such as the return of my Number 1 Queen.

First off, lets start with the comebacks I’ve already acknowledged:

Ladies Code’s “So Wonderful”. I already wrote a detailed post on the comeback, but every time I went on the YouTube video, some idiot was making a Wonder Girls connection, since apparently they own the standing microphone concept. Someone should have told SHINee that last year, too. I guess Ladies’ Code acknowledged this and feel honored since they’re friends with Sunye – I’m glad they’re taking this in stride. Anyways, the song is flawless, and I just saw that I reblogged it on my tumblr 3 times last month; which is probably a record for any non-B1A4 or SuJu track. I don’t care that it’s a re-tread of “Pretty Pretty” since I didn’t like a lot about the song, and “So Wonderful” takes out everything I didn’t like. Keep it going, Slaydies’ Code.

Then btob’s “Beep Beep”…another mess. The song and video are great, but as I said, the song sounds like EXO’s “Growl” mixed with BTS’ raps. AllKpop decided to steal my thunder and point out how the “Growl” dance matches perfectly with the song. No shit, Sherlocks, the beat is exactly the same in each song. Now EXO fans (who my lovely friend and I dub as ‘Exorcists’) are insulting btob’s song, because obviously btob meant to rip off EXO. Please. Just take Brave Brothers away from btob and everyone can be happy again.

Girl’s Generation’s flawless “Mr. Mr.”….do I have to write about this promotional mess again? 2ne1 is slaying them on the real-time charts, though SNSD pulled a music show win and are number 1 on Gaon this week. The cuts in the music video are awkward. They haven’t even been on a music show yet and it’s been like a week since the album leaked. I thought they were the Princesses of SMEnt…what is SM even doing any more? This is SNSDs biggest flop since “Gee” and should be a wakeup call to the marketing team at SM. Continue reading

BESTie Announces Official Comeback Date

During class today I decided to get on twitter, since it’s apparently a ‘good resource to look for jobs’ – so my intentions were pure, but the first tweets I saw were Yuji and Dahye of BESTie retweeting the Official BESTie tweet about the comeback which is set for February 28.

The song is called “Thank U Very Much” (yes, “U”, not “You”) and the song is a bit slower-paced than the BESTie songs that were released last year. Someone extracted the teaser M Countdown had on the show today, so here it is:

EXID & BESTie to Hold Comebacks Soon

One of the biggest rookie groups of 2012, EXID (not “ecksid”, “E X I D”), have basically fallen off the face of the planet. In 2012 they had two pretty decent hits, contributed a lame version of the B1A4 track “Hey Girl” called “Hey Boy” to the Thousandth Man OST,  and they won a couple of rookie awards. In 2013, they had a subunit, Dasoni, and rapper LE wrote some hit songs for other groups, and got into a controversy over her 19+ song with a B2ST member and Feeldog, but had no formal group promotions.

Basically Shinsadong Tiger (super producer for B2ST, 4Minute, T-Ara and other groups that I don’t care enough to remember) formed EXID and debuted them. Originally they had 6 members, but after “Whoz That Girl,” which hit 36 on Gaon, 3 girls left the group,  2 girls were added,  and EXID then released “Every Night.” which has over 5 million YouTube views and hit 43 on Gaon. Their chart positions were pretty impressive for a rookie girl group from a small company. Continue reading
