Top 45 K-Pop Songs of 2014 (Part 2)

After a week, here we are with the remainder of the Top 45 K-Pop Songs of 2014 countdown! In case you missed it, here’s Part 1.

Why 45? Because I feel like it. Because 50 is overdone. Because there were more than 20 good songs this year. Because I’m including non-titles unlike a certain music chart.

Songs 25-1 will be revealed here. Have you figured out what Number 1 is yet?

Favorite Releases of March 2014

Even though I’m a bit late this month, here are my favorite releases from March 2014. I already wrote a bit about a few of these songs so I won’t go into depth with all of them.

First off, lets start with the comebacks I’ve already acknowledged:

The obvious best song of the month was 4Minute’s “Watcha Doin’ Today” which ended up beating 2ne1 and SNSD the first week the song was eligible to on Inkigayo – arguably the most important music show to win. I wrote about this twice already, so I won’t say anything else aside for the fact I’m disappointed it didn’t do better on the charts since the video is great and the song is one of 4Minute’s strongest singles.

Then “Catallena” by Orange Caramel. I talked about that song already too, so there’s no point for me to discuss why I think it’s so amazing for a second time. The song did grow on me a lot since it was released and I like it almost as much as “Lipstick” – almost. The song is actually doing pretty well on the charts too. Continue reading

APink Rip Off Orange Caramel’s “Lipstick”

This isn’t even a cute Orange Caramel ripoff, like that time B1A4 ripped off “Lamu no Love Song” in their Japanese “What’s Happening” PV. This is just sad.

I don’t like APink. I’ve made this clear. But I still find myself unable to escape them on both my Facebook and tumblr accounts. I get that they’re popular – but they’re not my style. I’ve tried so hard to like them, I really have. I try not to hate any girl group, but APink probably come the closest to hating a girl group as I can go (along with a few other groups I won’t bring up now).

At this point, APink has done the unforgivable: rip off the flawless Orange Caramel “Lipstick” video for their new sub-par song that sounds like everything else they’ve ever released. Continue reading

My Top 10 Girl Groups

So in trying to figure out how to integrate a bit of myself into the blog, so maybe my readers can see where my thoughts and opinions come from, I’m going to do a quick list of both my Top 10 Boy and Girl Groups. Now that the boy groups have been posted, I’m going to try to figure out my top 10 girl groups, though they change constantly. Please note that these are not necessary the ‘best’ girl groups, but the girl groups I most enjoy. If I’ve seen a group live, I’m gonna bold their name.

There are so many groups I wanted to include but I only have room for 10 plus a Rookie shout out spot… there are way too many flawless girl groups to be honest, and I listen to a lot more girl groups than boy groups. Continue reading

I decide to have a life during break, and Orange Caramel decides to have a Comeback!

Orange Caramel is one of the best sub-units in K-Pop. It’s to the point where they’re probably more popular than After School, the group Raina, Nana, and Lizzy are all originally part of. I never really paid much mind to them until the “Lipstick” comeback, since everything about it was just so catchy, bright, and amazing. To this day I still play the video occasionally, and a gif of Nana from the video has to be one of the most reblogged K-Pop gifs on tumblr.

So I wake up this morning, since it’s my school vacation I literally have no conception of the date or time, and see that the MV for “Catallena,” Orange Caramel’s new Korean song, has been released. I feel like this is a lifetime coming to an end, since the teasers have been coming out since, I’m pretty sure, before SNSD and 2ne1 had their comebacks LAST MONTH. I’m glad Pledis waited until the hype died down from those two to release the MV. Continue reading
